About the Cwrs

We have a great Cwrs planned! Most of our tutors this year are regulars at Cwrs Cymraeg, but we are delighted to welcome Mared Lewis, an author who has published novels for Welsh language learners, for the first time this year.

There will be pub nights, the famous quiz led by the indomitable Robert Jones, Welsh scrabble, and extra workshops by the tutors on Welsh hymnody, writing in Welsh, and other topics of interest. Our Noson Llawen and Eisteddfod will be highlights of the week! We hope to see you there!

Field trip to Taliesin

Past attendees of Cwrs Cymraeg may remember that we usually have a field trip during the week exploring some interesting part of our Cwrs locale.  This year, we’ll be going to Taliesin, Frank Lloyd Wright’s home and studio near Madison.  We will be gone about five hours on Wednesday the 24th for this outing.

If you’d like to join us, you can add this extra when you register via Eventbrite at the link above!

Tutors

Christine McSorley - Level 1

Christine McSorley (Jones) lived on Anglesey in North Wales for over 40 years, before moving to Canada in January 2000. She has worked in the Hospitality and Tourism department at colleges in Wales and Ontario, Canada, and holds a certificate for adult teaching and training.

Currently she teaches part-time online with Algonquin College in Ottawa and also on the Ontario Welsh Festival board. She chats on Facetime with her sister who is still living in North Wales, as well as singing Welsh nursery rhymes with her 4 grandchildren.

Tim Doughty - Level 2

Tim Doughty bought his first “Welsh for Learners” book in 1979. In those pre-internet days, learning Welsh was a lonely process. After many stops and starts along the way he finally entered the light at the end of the tunnel. During his visit to Wales in 2019 he found that, yes, he is a Welsh speaker, and so are you!

Llinos Griffin - Level 3

Llinos Griffin is an experienced tutor of Welsh, and has taught language in Spain, France and Patagonia.  She currently teaches Welsh to people across the globe through Skype, including Welsh sessions for visitors to her area held in the picturesque former Gunpowder Works in Penrhyndeudraeth, where language, history and nature become one.

Mae Llinos Griffin yn diwtor Cymraeg ers dros 12 mlynedd bellach ac wedi gweithio yn Yr Wladfa ac yng nghanolfan iaith genedlaethol Nant Gwrtheyrn cyn dechrau ei busnes ei hun yn dysgu Cymraeg ar-lein i bobl o bedwar ban byd ers 2014. Yn byw ym Mhenrhyndeudraeth, Gwynedd, mae hi hefyd yn cynnig gwersi Cymraeg i ymwelwyr sy’n dod ar eu gwyliau i’r ardal. Yn ei hamser sbar, mae hi’n mwynhau cerdded ym mynyddoedd Eryri, gwneud gwaith celf, darllen a theithio.
