The walled town of Conwy and its protective castle was
built in the 13th century as part of Edward I's plan to control North
Wales. Unlike most medieval towns, the modern town of Conwy has never
expanded beyond those old walls. As a result, Conwy is a small town where
it is possible to walk anywhere within a few moments. Of particular interest
to visitors is Conwy Castle and Plas Mawr - a restored Elizabethian manor
house in the heart of the town.
